Pizmon Concert -- March 15th
with special guests from nearby Sderot

Pizmon, the Jewish a cappella group from Columbia University, Barnard
College and the Jewish Theological Seminary is coming to Ashkelon on
March 14th - 16th. They will be holding a concert on March 15th for
our membership and for special guests from Sderot.
|
Kumi Lach, the
music playing is from Shir Hashirim. It begins:
"Rise up, my love, my fair one, rise up. For, lo the
winter is past and the rain is over and gone."
Perfectly appropriate for a March concert in Israel -- please
join us. |
For the past 20 years Pizmon has traveled to hundreds of Jewish
communities throughout America and around the world to offer our music
as a source of inspiration and community outreach. During a typical
academic year they travelled and perform for about 50 audiences
ranging from Jewish day schools, community wide concerts, synagogues,
Hillels, hospitals, orphanages and homes for the elderly.
One of the main components of the year is when they embark on their
annual spring break tour, which they call their Music Outreach
Initiative (MOI). During MOI the group spends nine days with Jewish
communities across the globe that either cannot afford to bring us, or
are too far to reach during a regular weekend. In the past the group
has traveled as far as Germany, Poland, Hungary, Argentina, Uruguay
and Ukraine.
There are 13 members in the group this year (six girls and seven
boys), they come from nine different states and have one token
Canadian. While the members of Pizmon come from a variety of religious
backgrounds and as a group they work with every Jewish denomination
(Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and Reconstructionists), most of our
our outreach in the US is through the Conservative Movement.
Therefore, the Masorti Movement in Israel, has agreed to partner up
with us to help plan our programming.
