Yotzer Or is a community that combines text study, the arts, family experience and social action in an empowering Jewish-Israeli setting.

Yotzer Or serves the Talpiot neighborhood residents (especially the low income part) from its base at the Beit Lazaros Center.

The community consists of a wide range of people from varying backgrounds; serving the needs of residents, artists, students, counselors, single mothers and seniors. In an open and inviting atmosphere we study and experience Jewish sources and contemporary Israeli culture.

Yotzer Or is a platform where residents deal with their personal and communal needs with an eye to change.  Members meet at least once a month to celebrate central holidays or commemorations of the month.

Yotzer Or believes that through empowering individuals and working collectively we can use past treasures in contemporary ways to build a strong future for our society.

 Yotzer Or is a home.

Yotzer Or Projects

  • The Story Hour – Every week for children ages 4-7 and their parents.   A variety of stories and games to expose the children to literature, the Hebrew language and the importance of reading.

  • Library – Yotzer Or is establishing a children's library in the Beit Lazaros community center.

  • The Creation Station - A program in which parents and children study together to produce unique art projects focusing on: "Who am I in my Family?" "Who am I in my Community" and "Who am I in my World?" For further details please contact us as soon as possible.

Yotzer Or in the neighborhood – Yotzer Or considers itself part of the Talpiot neighborhood, so anticipating and responding to communal needs is part of its goals.  Yotzer Or will develop more programs and activities to answer the needs of the residents to be a thriving community identifying with the past, changing the present and creating the future in 21st century Israel.

Yotzer Or Groups

Holiday and Community Events  All members of the Yotzer Or community meet at least once a month to mark communal events or celebrate holidays. This gives the events special meaning coming from the heart and the soul of the neighborhood, living a contemporary, fascinating Israeli-Jewish life. It's a perfect time to build community and strengthen personal relationships.

Study & Creation
An adult study session focusing on Jewish sources and Israeli issues using a broad range of arts (music, dance, video, ceramics, etc.) to open a dialogue on issues that interest us as residents of our neighborhood, Jerusalem, and Israel.

Tutoring
High school students from NOAM (The Conservative Youth Movement) serve as tutors for elementary school students from the neighborhood; helping with homework and improving their learning skills.

Weekly for high school students.
During the week, University students help high school students prepare for their final exams.

Neighborhood groups
In “Beit Hakeila” (the community house) are several active groups such as seniors and single mothers. Yotzer Or is invited once a month to give lessons connected to holidays or issues requested by the groups.
